PIZZA HUT ADS SHOT...AND...and they allowed me to get out in time to make my flight to Austin! THANK YOU PIZZA HUT!
SHOOTING A COVER OF BUSINESS WEEKLY THIS THURSDAY. I'll let you know when it will be coming out.
Be on the lookout for my new Canon ad I did. It is a photo of hand that is breaking through a store window in order to get to the amazing camera!
This will be the second year I have shot the Wet N' Wild campaign. Very exciting! Extremely nice people to work with. Keep an eye out for the shots!
Today I have a job modeling credit cards for the credit card company which supplies the actual "plastic card" to companies. Tom Keller is the photographer who will be shooting this job.
Keep an eye out for the Pizza Hut Commercial with Jessica Simpson and Miss Piggy. Can not wait to see it! Look for my hands! The commercial should air before and during the first part of the Superbowl--that is when people decide on what to eat for their Superbowl party. I hope you get a Pizza Hut Pizza! PS I wore the SAME red dress that Jessica wears in the commercial when I shot the commercial--SO HAPPY I FIT IN IT!xoxoxo
Here is a list of my favorite beauty products for 2005 in no particular order. There are so many beauty products on the market, and of course I haven't tried EVERYTHING. However, I do try as many new products as I can get my hot little hands on. If you have a favorite product that you would like me to review, please shoot me an email with the name of the product, why you like it, and where I can find it. (I'm still finishing this blog so bare with me!) *Please ignore the apostraphes and quotes which are not usable on this blog because of glitches.
1. FAVORITE NAILCARE PRODUCT: SOLAR OIL BY CREATIVE NAIL DESIGN Solar Oil has been my favorite cuticle oil for years now. Containing Jojoba oil, Vitamin E, Sweet Almond Oil, and Rice Bran oil, Solar Oil is not greasy and soaks right into my cuticles as soon as I brush it on. Not only is it great for your cuticles, but it helps to keep your nails healthy. I usually put it on right before I go to bed after I put on my hand lotion.
2. FAVORITE EVERYDAY NAIL POLISH: "SUGAR DADDY" NAIL POLISH BY ESSIE
Ever since I started wearing "Sugar Daddy Nail Polish, I have had so many strangers ask me what nail polish I am wearing. It is a great fresh neutral pink color that really makes my nails shine and flatters any skin tone. This color you have to try!
3. FAVORITE HAIR CONDITIONING TREATMENT: NATURES THERAPY MEGA MOISTURE (for very dry, chemically processed hair) BY LOREAL
I have the testiest hair. If I use a conditioner that is not moisturizing enough, my hair is a tangled mess and I can not put a comb through it. If I use a conditioner that is too greasy, my hair becomes this heavy, helmet of hair with no movement. I do not have chemically treated hair nor is my hair dry, but I do have course, thick, slightly wavy hair that this product smoothes out, untangles, and leaves smooth and healthy looking. I use Natures Therapy Mega Moisture 3 times a week and I swear by it! This product I often give as gift to friends which says a lot about how much I believe in its effectiveness.
4. FAVORITE FACIAL CLEANSER: SKIN SAVER BY MAXWELL'S APOTHECARY AT WWW.MAXWELLSONLINE.COM
It's always fun to steal your boyfriends/husbands t-shirts...and now you can commandeer his facial cleanser too. If the man in your life is still using a bar of soap on his face, then it is high time that you turned him on to a skincare program that is going to keep his face clean, healthy, and young looking. (The cool white container that it comes in will not scare your guy either-- it looks very cool!) Containing Vitamin C, Skin Saver also gets rid of toxins in your skin -which is fine by me. All I know is when I use this cleanser, which is marketed as a male hygiene product, my skin glows!
5. FAVORITE LIP BALM: BURTS BEESWAX LIPBALM (in the recycled plastic tube) BY BURTS BEES WAX WWW.BURTSBEES.COM
I love this lip balm because it always cures my dry lips and it is great alone or under lipstick or lipgloss. Burts Beeswax Lipbalm isn't waxy and it goes on very smoothly. The tingly peppermint feels good on my lips and also makes me feel like I have fresher breathe! It is also my BEST BUY OF THE YEAR at a price point of $2.50 for a recycled plastic tube. This product is all natural, does not contain chemical preservatives, and is not tested on animals.
6. FAVORITE MASCARA:. MAYBELLINES GREAT LASH BLACKEST BLACK
I have tried every mascara on the market and I keep coming back to this one! Maybellines Great lash is the only mascara that makes my short little eyelashes look descent!
7. FAVORITE LOTION: BLISS VANILLA + BERGAMOT BODY BUTTER MAXIMUM MOISTURE CREAM BY BLISS SPA.
I have to admit that I hesitated to buy a lotion that costs $32 for 8.5 ounces, but I had to try it and it was worth every penny. I am addicted to the smell, the way it leaves my skin so soft, and I am absolutely in love with this lotion. I have to say that I am very careful with this moisturizer and I use it sparingly only on my hands before I go to bed. It is part of my nightly ritual and I could not sleep without it!
8. FAVORITE LIP GLOSS: LOVE NECTAR LUSTREGLASS LIPGLASS BY MAC
I have about 10 lip glosses that I use on and off, but my favorite is Macs Lustreglass in the color Love Nectar. No lipgloss can really compare to Macs Lustreglass which has a shine that is so sexy! The color I wear Love Nectar is a soft apricot with a bit of a pearl finish.
9. FAVORITE BODY SCRUB: SPONTANEITY FOAMING BODY SCRUB BY AROMA NATURALS WWW.AROMANATURALS.COM The smell of this grapefruit and mandarin body scrub is supposed to "revive awareness". All I know is when I rub this exfoliating scrub all over my body, I feel fresh and clean and ready to take on the world! Spontaneity Foaming Body Scrub makes me want to shower- a lot!
10. FAVORITE SUNSCREEN: G.M. COLLIN SPF 30 TOTAL SUNBLOCK WWW.GMCOLLIN.COM
This year I found out that there is a difference between medical grade sunscreen and sunscreen. Who would have known? G.M. Collin SPF 30 protects from broad spectrum UVA and UVB rays from the sun which cause premature aging, wrinkling, and hyperpigmentation of the skin. I liked it because it does not clog my pores and my makeup always goes on smoothly over the sunscreen. I don’t forget to wear this on my hands of course!
11. FAVORITE NAIL POLISH TOP COAT: SECHE VITE DRY FAST TOP COAT
Every time I wear Seche Vite topcoat (especially over my Essie Sugar daddy nail polish), my nails are perfection! Not only does my polish dry quickly, but the shine from this topcoat is just like glass. Not all nail polish top coats are created equally-- Seche Vite is amazing!
12. FAVORITE EXFOLIANT: EVAS PEELING CREAM EXFOLLIANT BY EVAS ESTHETICS WWW.EVASESTHETICS.COM
Evas Peeling Cream Exfolliant has truly been a godsend for my sensitive skin, which tends to get oily and react to just about anything that I use on it. (This is an exfolliant that is called a peeling cream but for all intensive purposes is the best exfoliant I've ever tried.) Usually exfoliants tend to be sharp and grainy with particles that seem too big to rub on my face, but this one has the finest pumice base that does not cut or irritate your skin and gets right in around your nose. Ever since I started using this exfolliant, gone are the little mystery bumps on my cheeks and forehead that used to plague me, and most importantly my skin glows smooth. 13.Favorite Candle: ANGEL"(TYPE) ORLEANS HOME FRAGRANCES CANDLE www.orleanshomefragrances.com
Okay so a candle is not really a beauty product, but I do keep a candle burning on my vanity while I do my make up- does that count? And right now I burn the candle I got on New Years on Magazine Street in New Orleans which I think is the greatest! The scent is very similar to the Angel Perfume that I used to wear years ago. The fragrance of ANGEL is quite distinctive and everytime I smell it now, I think of New Orleans. (Yes, you can visit new Orleans after the flood! They have rebuilt the touristy areas and the restaraunts have reopened! Please support the businesses of New Orleans and visit soon!) This scent for me is indescribable but I'll try! Vanilla, a walk in the Garden District in Uptown New Orleans after a rain in the late spring, plums, lazy days on the porch drinking sweet tea, peaches, passion, ghost tours--that is what I think of when I smell the fragrance put off by this candle that I have come to associate my trips to New Orleans with. I know you will love it. 14. FAVORITE SPECIAL OCCASSION NAIL POLISH: ANYTHING BY CHINA GLAZE
China Glaze polish has been a favorite of mine ever since I worked with the manicurist and salon owner who started the line. I believe the first time I used CHINA GLAZE was when I was foot modeling for Faith Hill on a commercial. You can't go wrong with their hip colors...and I love the brush!

Hmmm... I wonder who that could be in the new worldwide IPOD NANO campaign ads?? Well since I signed a confidentiality agreement to not talk about the campaign....I can't really say....but who do you think it is?
The main criteria for hiring a hand model is: Experience, Experience, Experience.
Why is an EXPERIENCED HAND MODEL so important? On a set, time=money. If everyone is waiting for a hand model to perform the shot, perform within the frame, hit her mark, or get over nerves--it will hold up production and cost the production thousands of dollars as everyone falls behind schedule. If a hand model is chosen because she was the "cheapest" or because her face looks like the model being used...you could be in for a world of problems. There have been many times when I have gotten a frantic call to be on a set as quickly as possible to replace a hand model that was not working out.
Just because everyone has hands...doesn't mean that they are a hand model. I have seen a current trend in casting where it seems like everyone thinks they are a hand model. Recently, I have heard more complaints from production about agencies sending inexperienced people who call themselves "hand models" because they have a few photos of their hands. Having photos of your hands, does not mean much--especially in the world of MASSIVE PHOTO RETOUCHING.
(This leads me to a side note, paying an experienced hand model's day rate is worth it. You get what you pay for. Any experienced hand model who works regularly will not try to lowball the competition.)
The second criteria for hiring a hand model is: GRACE.
When hiring a hand model, people tend to ask the hand model to hold out their hands or lay their hands flat on a table. That is a great way to find out NOTHING you need to know to get your shot--unless of course what you need is a hand model that will not be moving and will be posing flat against a table.
It is important to ask a hand model to hold the product that they will be holding in the shot so that you can get the idea of how this hand model moves her hands. You might ask the hand model to pretend that she is on the set, and that she is enterring the frame from camera left to reach in and take a product. If your hand model does not know the difference between CAMERA LEFT AND CAMERA RIGHT, there are going to be problems on the set. Ask the model to point, pick up the product, pretend she is putting some of the product in her hand. Watch the movements, make sure they are slow and steady. STEADY HANDS---very important. Steady, graceful, slow moving hands... in a frame where a hand is the entire frame, it does not take much movement to fall out of a frame or miss your mark.
The third criteria for hiring a hand model: SIZE OF THE MODEL. When a hand model is hired, the lighting is all for the product. Often the hand model must squeeze between lights and c-stands to get into the shot. Also, it is important that the model be small enough to fit into the actress's clothing in the case that the hand model might have to wear the actress' wardrobe to match the shot. I replaced a foot model that was hired in December on a shoot, because nobody bothered to find out that the actress' shoes were all a 6.5 and the foot model came in and didn't fit into the shoes--now that would only work if they had two pairs of every shoe! The entire production was held up until I got there.
The fourth criteria for hiring a hand model: SKIN TONE. My skin tone is the perfect neutral. Because I do not have red or pink in my skin, my hands never turn blotchy with heat or blue with cold. The skin on my hands does not change color when I'm holding something for a long time to get a shot and the blood is draining out of them. Also, I have the kind of skin that is fair enough for the fairest match or toned enough to match someone with olive skin. Remember the product is going to be lit to make it look it's best--the hand model is an afterthought. If you choose someone with hands that are TOO PALE and the lighting is bright for the product, the hands will look ghostly and dead. If you hire a hand model who has hands that looked great FLAT AGAINST A BACKDROP WHERE YOU TOOK A DIGITAL PHOTO OF HER...you might freak out when she is on set and the blue veins are sticking out of her pasty colored skin...
I am available to help you find the appropriate hand model you are looking for: male or female.
Be on the lookout for my EPSON PRINTER COMMERCIAL! I'll be the one loading the machine and pushing the buttons. This is the second commercial that I have done for Epson and I've also done much of their print work.
If you check out EW WOMEN at your local newstand, you will see a great interview and a full page photo of me!
I have been shooting a top secret advertising campaign for an international company. All of their print and commercials will feature my hands all over their product. I am unable to unveil the name of the product until it launches but I hope to do so before the end of the year! xoxoxo
Don't miss my Aveeno Commercial where I cut off all my fingernails to book this job! (Thank God they grew back!)
The new Variety Magazine comes out today! Please check it out! I will be reviewing my favorite beauty products and beauty treatments so keep an eye our for my reviews. If you have a product you would like me to try please email me about it. Thank you!
I was at the gym reading my Time Magazine that came in the mail yesterday and I found an ad for the new SONY CYBERSHOT CAMERA that I did. ENJOY! It is around page 90 I believe. THe camera is so thin! I loved it! I'm sure it is in other major magazines so if you see it...please let me know where!
I hope you like my feet in the LA TIMES MAGAZINE editorial full color photo spread in this Sunday's paper. I think there are 5 pages of all the hottest pool side sandals and high heels for you to check out!
Celebrity nail guru Tom Bachik's new line has hit the market! I did all the hand modeling shots for their line and I'm so excited to see them! I love their nail files and their products are great. www.entitybeauty.com
I did an interview with Gold Sea today. It was very enlightening. Answering questions about my career makes me focus on what it is that I want, where I'm going with my goals, and is a good way to get myself focused.
I Was interviewed for The Korea Los Angeles Times. I'm so excited! This interview will be in Korean. The journalist who interviewed me was the most inspiring person! It is always interesting to meet an educated, talented, independent woman. She gave me the best compliment that I have ever gotten on my hands. When she looked at photos of my hands from my portfolio, she said, "Your hands are prettier than the flowers in the photo." I couldn't believe it! That was just so amazingly sweet.
GIVE HER A HAND
As a Supermodel, it’s not easy keeping your privacy. However Mia Crowe has been able to have an internationally successful career in virtual anonymity, while foregoing the diva attitude for a great sense of humor. You can’t turn on the television or flip through a magazine anywhere in the world, without seeing Mia’s famous hands in advertisements for everything from Burger King, Oil Of Olay and Crest Toothpaste to Sky Vodka, Dove Soap, and Dunkin’ Donuts. Currently, you can see Mia’s talented hands in commercials doing everything from spreading Philadelphia Cream Cheese on a bagel and twisting open Oreo cookies to pouring test tubes of blue dye onto Tampax feminine pads to test for absorbency.
Based in Hollywood, California, Mia got her start as a hand model while she was working as an actress on a television commercial. When she noticed that the director was interviewing several white-gloved women to hand model for his next commercial, she stuck out her hands to be judged along side the veteran hand models. Mia was hired on the spot, and her career as a hand model was born. (Little did she know that she’d have to shoot the job underwater in a swimming pool for 3 days, and it would be one of her most difficult jobs to date!)
From commercials airing around the world to ad campaigns in publications such as SELF MAGAZINE, MADEMOISELLE, ESQUIRE, and the NEW YORK TIMES, Mia is booked for ad campaigns based on her sparkling reputation. Mia’s skills and impeccable timing have earned her the reputation as a valuable talent who can save the production time and therefore thousands of dollars in production costs. Whether it is working 8-14 hour days or swooping in to do one shot for 15 minutes, Mia commands fees upwards of $25,000 depending on the job.
A self professed beauty product junkie, Mia is constantly searching out new products to keep her skin, nails, hands and feet in perfect, camera ready condition. She is interested in spokesmodel endorsements for beauty products such as lotions, nailpolish, make up, soap, sunscreen, dayspas, nail salons, professional nail lines, shoes, and jewelry. Mia is also the top foot model, modeling shoes for some of the top companies in the world.
Mia has hand modeled in over 5000 commercials, print campaigns, and editorials to date. She has been the hands for such celebrities as Penelope Cruz (Lux), Jennifer Aniston (L’Oreal), Molly Simms (Covergirl), and Cindy Crawford (Yoplait Yogurt). You can see Mia’s hands in French Loreal Commericals, British Beer ads, Japanese Lux Commercials, Korean Hyundai car commercials, and other commercials around the world. Mia has worked with the top directors and photographers in the Hollywood, including Mathew Ralston, Dewey Nicks, and the late Herb Ritts.
Mia believes that other hand models who wear gloves are a bit eccentric and says, “You don’t see models like Giselle Bunchen or Tyra Banks covering their faces so I don’t thinks it’s necessary to cover my hands. I live my life like everybody else, and I love working in the garden.” Mia is a successful comedic actress, television host, voiceover artist, producer and writer. She sold a television show pilot, is a producer for the top concert DVD series, and was a series regular traveling to a different city every week on TNN’s wildly popular television series POP ACROSS AMERICA.
Mia is currently finishing a book about her life working as a hand model that she plans to pitch as a television show. Mia considers herself a comedic actress and continues working as an actress in film, television, commercials and voice-overs and is appearing in 3 movies in 2005. Check out her website at www.handsupermodel.com.

Here is another shoe that I'm modeling at the shoe show for ON YOUR FEET. Suede Mocassins are the hottest new shoe for 2005. This shoe is called TOFU and comes in several colors including orange, pink, brown, black, natural, and lime. This shoe retails for $45.
Here is one of the hot new shoes I will be modeling this weekend. This leather sandal is called BELL and retails for $39.00. This shoe is extremely comfortable and comes in fuschia, yellow, white, black, orange, and lime green.
I will be working in Las Vegas for four days Feb5-8. Come by and see me modeling the hottest new shoes from www.onyourfeet.com. I will be showing the 2005 collection. This show is held every February and August with over 1600 exhibitors representing 6000 brands worldwide from over 100 countries.
WWW.LUX.CO.JP is the website for Lux Beauty Products. In November I did a few commercials for Lux as the hands of Keira Knightley.
I am hand and foot modeling for Charlize Theron for LUX SPA MOIST. Lux is a top company in the beauty industry in Japan. I've been working for them for about 10 years now as a hand model.
My latest passion is this great lotion from the Bliss Spa line. This lotion smells like amber, lemon, bergamot, myrrh and musk. I'll be using these products for the next month to see how I like them. It's the last day of January! It's been a great month. I hope to continue to improve my website www.handsupermodel.com.
I just got these from Bloomingdales and I can't wait to wear them. My friend Linda has spoken so highly about this line of products so I'm finally going to see if they are as amazing as she says they are. You can check out their products at www.blissworld.com.
I was a speaker at a Learning Annex class the other day on modeling. It was a lot of fun. I talked about a lot of things that people seem to ask me through this website. So keep the questions coming, I will try to answer as many as I can. I plan on continuing to do speaking engagements on the business of parts modeling, hands and feet modeling, and the modeling industry. I will try to post the dates, times, and locations on the site so you can sign up too.
People always ask me what kinds of materials that I use to get more jobs. This is one page of my old fold out zedcard or composite as some people call it. It has a few jobs on it that I put on one page. In hindsight, it wasn't very well organized, but I have other zedcards that I will post here in the future.
I did this sculpted tip shot for this company Nailene. When you hand model, you must be very careful on these types of jobs so that you don't hurt your base nail by putting on and taking off the tips.
My friend Chanel Ryan (see links) gave me a bottle of Dabur Jasmine Hair Oil for my birthday. She swears by it! I always see her going about her day in braids with this hair oil that smells like flowers in her hair. I was so happy she gave it to me to try! I have to be the most skeptical person when it comes to magical beauty remedies. However I have to admit that I love trying them! I just put the oil on my hair and I'm in love with the smell. This all-natural Indian product is not tested on animals, has all natural ingredients, and contains no animal products. I'm not exactly sure how much it retails for because the websites I looked it up on had prices that ranged from $2.99 to $30.00 for the same size which seemed very strange! My guess is that you can get it at your local Ayurvedic Indian Store or online. The smell of the jasmine is intoxicating! I definitely recommend it. It gets 5 stars!
A lot of people assume that the rest of your body doesn't have to be in shape if you are a hand model. WRONG. This shot was taken of me and it is my body you see laying in the background. Although I look nude, I am not. I am wearing clothes in this shot, but they are the same color as my skin so it doesn't show up in the photo. I wouldn't have gotten this particular job if the silhoutte of my body for this shot was not to their liking. There are many times when my body is in a hand modeling shot mostly because the body is a natural background to my hands. I can put on an outfit and you can see me moving about doing activities below the neck.
I wanted to show you my first effort at a foot zedcard. A zedcard is used by my agent in procuring work for me. She sends my card out to photographers so that they can see photos of my feet. This card is about the size of an 8x10 piece of paper folded in half. These particular photos were taken by Frank Terry while he worked for Matthew Rolston.
Here is an ad that I did for Cannon. It was sent to me by the art director from the job. It is very difficult to get copies of your work. Most of the time, I get my own copy of the job on accident when it comes to my house as a flier or I'm thumbing through a magazine and I find an ad. I try to get as many business cards as I can while I'm on a set. (If I'm shooting a commercial I always get the call sheet which has everyones numbers.) That way when the job ends, I have a better chance of getting a copy of the print job. Many times on a shoot, everyone is freelance. So at the end of the day, everyone moves on to the next job. So if I can get business cards from the photographer, art director, client, an ad agency rep I've got my bases covered.
My birthday comes up very quickly after the new year. I am shooting two jobs this week but I will be celebrating on the weekend. I edited my reel today with Nate at Firestarter Edit. He is really the best! I'm so happy to get work done at the begining of the year! I have a short list of things I still need to do, but I have big plans for this year. I want to finish my book very soon. I've been busy answering so many emails about how to get into the hand modeing business that I need to put together a downloadable ebook for everyone to look at.
So I decided to take my first step in getting my skin in perfect shape for 2005. I started taking PURE SKIN CLARIFYING SUPPLEMENT by Murad. This vitamin claims to improve your skin by 55% in six weeks. So I'm going to take the challenge which will cost me $70 to try the product for two months. I'm starting the vitamins today and in 6 weeks which basically will be late February, I will report my findings. If you know of certain vitamins or minerals that you would recommend to me, I'd love to hear about them. Please email me at mia@handsupermodel.com. The vitamins contain the following: Vitamin A (as Palmitate), Beta Carotene, Vitamin B-1 (Thiamine HCl), Vitamin B-2 (Riboflavin), Vitamin B-3 (Niacin), Vitamin B-5 (Pantothenic Acid), Vitamin B-6 (Pyridoxine HCl), Biotin, Vitamin C (Calcium 60% & Zinc Ascorbate 40%), Folic Acid, Vitamin E Natural, Calcium (Ascorbate), Magnesium (Oxide), Zinc (Ascorbate), Glucosamine HCl, L-Lysine HCl, L-Glycine, L-Proline, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Silica (Derived from 400mg Horsetail Leaf Extract), Grape Seed Extract (38.4%), Selenium (L-Selenomethionine), Lecithin, EFA, Burdock Root Powder, Yellowdock Powder, Chromium (as picolinate), Pomegranate Extract, Origanox, Aloe Vera Powder, Coenzyme Q 10.
I found this song that I thought was very cool by QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE called "I was a Teenage Hand Model". If anyone can explain what these lyrics have to do with hand modeling, I'd love to hear it!
Here are the lyrics:
Cozied up to the toilet
Face stuck to the floor
I met expectations that I was tryin to ignore
Job had such patience
I wonder, what's that like?
One hundred thousand million
But I hear that's what you like
So I was thinkin
So these cities are sprouting
Like a spit in the eye
And this world isn't waiting
It's just passing me by
I just peak in the window
Lookin inside
The butcher's got a fork in your face
I'm standing alive
And I was singin
Sometimes I shoot and water is involved. While someone on the crew is splashing my hands to get the shot, my face, hair, clothes, and shoes are getting wet too. I always bring a pair of flip flops in my set bag for this very reason. When I shoot a job like this, I will ask for towels to dry off inbetween shots and I will take a garbage bag and poke holes in it to wear it like a raincoat. So for everyone who thinks hand modeling is glamourous work, think again!
I found this ad I did for Pizza Hut in my mailbox with the pack of flier junkmail. It's great to get copies of your work, because I realize that when they are gone they are gone for good unless you can track your work down through the photographers, production company, ad agency, or other people on the production end. I have been very bad about getting copies of my work, but I'm trying my best to be as diligent as I can so I have my work to show you here on my website www.handsupermodel.com.
When I shot this UCLA brochure, they used green body paint on my hands when they shot it. It was the art director's idea to make the hands like the leaves of a plant. This was a fun shoot, and the result was a gorgeous brochure. This is the only time I've been body painted and I'd love to do more body painting shoots in the future.
If you want to be a hand model, having the right photos in your portfolio is very important. Go to the magazine stand and buy 10 magazines that have highend advertisements. Go home, and tear out the photos of great hand shots to keep in a folder of ideas for your shoot. When you have about 5 shots that you like, plan a shoot so that you can do your own version of these ads. It's important to have strong ideas that showcase different angles when shooting for your own portfolio.
When going out in open toed shoes, a pedicure is necessary. Whether you do it yourself or at a salon, polished toenails, exfoliated heels, and great skin on your feet and legs are on your to do list when getting yourself ready for that special occassion.
I shoot a lot of jewelry ads. My hands are slightly smaller than the average hand which makes the jewelry look bigger and therefore puts the focus on what I'm selling..in this case diamonds. For those in the Bible Belt, I apologize ahead of time but I just do what they tell me on the photo shoots.
Wet N' Wild has a great clear polish that you can put over any color to give your polish a matte look. Professionally I use this product when I am shooting a commercial and the director does not want any kind of reflection or shine on the surface of my nails.
In my wallet, I always carry a Band-Aid. If I am out and I snag, crack, or break a nail, I can quickly put a Band-Aid on until I have time to fix the problem properly. I don't always have time to file the nail right at that moment, glue the nail, stop by a nail salon to have the nail professionally fixed with acrylic, or patch the nail myself so it doesn't snag on something else. A Band-Aid can buy you some time until you can deal with the problem.
A very important skill to have in hand modeling is the ability to do a good pizza pull. Once you pull up on the piece of pizza, you can never let it go back down or you will ruin the cheese pull. Each shot that you do with a pizza is very important because of the prep time it takes to prepare a pizza on the set. If you ruin the shot on the pizza they bring out, you have to wait until another pizza is ready to be brought out again.
What resolutions can you make in the upcoming year when it comes to keeping your hands and feet in the best shape of your life? More than half of the emails I receive are from people who want me to recommend products to them to make their hands and feet look great. To date, I don't have ONE product that does it all in any category. I'm constantly trying new beauty products, spa and salon treatments, and learning about ways to improve my health internally through diet, exercise, and vitamins so that my body is healthy and happy. But for now, here are a 5 easy promises we can make to ourselves to keep our hands and feet in the best possible shape for 2005!
1. TREAT: Moisturize hands and feet at night before we go to bed (currently using Kiss My Face Lavender and Shea Butter Moisturizer)
2. PREVENT: Use sunscreen on our hands before we leave the house everyday (currently using Celex C Sunscreen from Sephora)
3. TREAT: Keep fingernails manicured (whether we do it ourselves or at a salon)
4. PREVENT: Take vitamins to supplement our food intake (currently I'm taking Murad Pure Skin Clarifying Supplements)
5. REPAIR: Use fade cream on dark spots or areas of the skin that have hyperpigmentation or sun damage (currently looking for a new product to try)
If you have a product that you absolutley adore, please send me an email to tell me about it. I'd love to know why you like it and what it has done for you. As a beauty product junkie, I'm always on the look out for a product or treatment that works!
Yes, these are my hands on the packaging for Neutrogena New Hands Lotion. This photo was taken by the photographer Mark Laita. I like this hand lotion because it contains Pro-Retinol and Alpha Hydroxy Acid to minimize wrinkles and fine lines and keep the skin on your hands in great shape. It is reasonably priced and you can find it at your local drugstore.
Ivan is my personal trainer who is getting me into bikini ready condition again after the holidays. Yes, I did overindulge in my Mother's homemade cooking, but I'm working hard to get back into redcarpet event shape for all the upcoming Hollywood premiers and parties.
Ivan is great for me because he has taught me to be disciplined about my workout schedule and my eating habits. The bottom line is that I'm seeing results! We have made a specific goal within a time frame and I plan on staying on track and looking great before the end of January. To talk to Ivan about working out, weightloss goals, or having him appear as a celebrity trainer on the next reality television show you can schedule with him at 310/402-0232.
I went to a great new nail salon yesterday called VARNISH. I knew it was going to be different when I first sat down and I watched NyShan, my nail tech, open a sterile package of nail implements right before my eyes. I think the shock read on my face! Okay, lets be honest. The average nail salon is filthy. VARNISH was the perfect nail salon to enjoy myself in a gorgeous, sanitary environment! However, most importantly, my manicure was flawless. All the polishes that are VARNISH NAIL POLISHES are named after places like "The Big Easy", "Sunset Strip", and "Vail" and I will be sure to let you know how long my manicure lasts so check back. NyShan really took her time and polished my nails perfectly! I also got the "super-hydrating hand treatment with hot mitts" while I was getting my pedicure, and my hands are so soft and smooth today. As for my pedicure, I walked out of VARNISH with my toes looking like shiny jewels! AMAZING! I was so pleased! Are all nail salons created equal? Absolutely not! VARNISH is definitely in a class all it's own! As an added bonus, if you go to VARNISH on a Monday, you get a free bottle of their name brand VARNISH NAIL POLISH. Check out www.varnishnails.com for directions and when you make your appointment request NyShan!

I was looking around on some websites and I found this editorial photo I did for the photographer Eric Tucker. He has such an interesting style! I enjoy working for him because he always has an artistic concept to work with. This concept is kind of Madonna circa 1984 meets sushi.

From Pizza Hut, Neutrogena and Lux to the cover of Nails Magazine, Revlon, and Sunkist, you can not turn on the television or flip through a magazine without seeing Mia Crowe ’s famous hands and feet.
Mia Crowe is a top hand model in the big business of body parts modeling. Turn on the television right now, and you can see Mia ’s talented hands doing everything from putting a CD into a new car and sudsing up the latest facial cleanser to squeezing eye creme onto the tip of her finger.
Mia got her start as a hand model while she was working as an actress on a television commercial. As a well-known voice-over artist, she often hand models in a commercial and then gets hired to do the voice over for the commercial too. Mia is currently working on several books including her GUIDE TO HAND MODELING.

My blog will include news reviews, and previews of the latest in beauty products and spa treatments. I will also have previews of my upcoming project GUIDEBOOK TO HAND MODELING for aspiring hand models or for those just curious about what exactly a hand model does. Each posting will include a photo from a hand or foot modeling job that I have done.
Please feel free to send me invitations to your salon or dayspa, tell me about a product that you absolutely adore, email me questions you have, or give me feedback or comments on my website.
